Down in Down Under - Diary - 01/08/02

the first dayI have survived the first night in the hostel (8:30 aussie time, 0:30 german time). The second part of the flight has been again strenuous. After two hours stop in Kuala Lumpur, which I spent in the airport (not because i'd liked to, because I had to), the journey went on to Sydney. Meanwhile the council group is grown more. I think now all council people have met each other. The airport of Kuala Lumpur is a complete non-smoking area. There was just a small room, and even the smokers said, you just have to breath. On the plane I slept a little bit again, although it has not really been proper sleep. I think it was just kind of a reflex of my body ;-) It was already dark, when we landed in Sydney at 19:30. A nice airport, really nice people, and the checks have been a lot more easier than expected (although we thought we had something to declare). All our luggage has been there and finally the group of council people (meanwhile over 20) met in the lounge to go to the bus. We just jumped in and he drove us very quickly to our hostel through Sydney by night. We checked in - six bed dorm, very small, but alright. Then I first went to have a shower to become a human being again after the long flight. Afterwards a few people of the group met to go to the harbour to know that we are really here - here in Sydney, Australia. This happened when we stood opposite the opera. Incredible, that we can just stand there directly opposite these buildings. Just great! Then we just walked into down-town, to eat something. This has not been very easy, because in the mid of the week, it was already a little bit late. Finally we ate Kebab at Ali Babas and returned to the wanderers, where I could sleep really good after a certain time.Now, Friday morning we will have breakfast soon and then attend the council info meeting. Then I will see how things go on... I just had breakfast, Vegemite, jummy;-), you have to try it, but I decided that it won't be part of my breakfast anymore. The most commmended instant-coffee is just brilliant! I think I will prefer tea or other things in the future. |
