Down in Down Under - Diary - 03/08/02

wta and partying...Today I got up very early, because we have to check out of the wanderers. Then again full packed we went to council dropped everything and informed ourselves about jobs. Unfortunately there again has not been anything decent. The biggest problem is, that we want to stay here in Sydney just for a few days and then head off to Cairns. Short-term casual work is not easy to find. After that, we went to WTA in Glebe, unfortunately a little bit late. Glebe is situated in the south-east of Sydney. It is still somehow in the centre, but looks like a suburb. When we found the Triple2Lodge, we first had a look. A really spacious basic house, with a nice half covered courtyard, many rooms, two kitchens and so one (e.g. an internet flatrate) in a very comfy atmosphere. Then spontanously we decided (did we had another choice) to stay there. After we dropped all our luggage, we went shopping, because we had to supply ourselves now. On the way to the next shopping centre, we passed the Glebe markets. These markets really expressed the aura of this suburb. Many small stalls, which offered lots of trash - old records, joss sticks, water pipes, cultic sunglasses. Seeing all this here and the people, Glebe seems to be the hippie suburb of Sydney. Really relaxed and comfy atmosphere off the busy city. After we spent nearly one hour on shopping and asking a few people concerning jobs, we got back to the Lodge to have nice hot curry pasta. First Katha wanted to refine the not really jummy tomato sauce with curry, and put in a whole bag of curry. After that we miscalculated the amount of noodles and finally had a "mountain of noodles" (quote of a fellow) left. This probably as well because of the nice sauce. Despite this nice dinner everybody was really happy and we noticed that the WTA is really good and we had made the right decision.Later this evening we went back to town again. This time we went by foot and realized, that it is quite far. Nevertheless we found a nice nightclub after walking around darling harbour two times. Unfortunately the nice party was finished shortly to three o'clock by announcement through the dj (does something like this happens back home!?). Seems to be similar to the UK!? And everybody just left, peculiar. Then, outside, there nearly was a fight. Which was ended by the immediately turning up police. Seems to be normal here as well. |
