saturday @ olympic park
Today on our day off we decided to visit
Olympic Park.
Phil has been there already and reportet really enthusiastic. That's why we went on
to have a look on the facillities today, after a part of our group left for Cairns.
At Central Station, which is really small for such a big city, we have been informed that
there is no possibility to go directly to Olympic Park. So we had to change trains on
the way - no problem. On the train, again by chance, we met a German lady, who left
Germany 35 years ago and had a really nice chat. We apparently were the only ones in
the train, after changing over to the Olympic Park Shuttle. Arriving at the park the
big station appeared to be quite lifeless, during the games 50 000 people have
checked in here within an hour. Then we first went to the Visitor's Centre, to get
some information concerning the guided tours and decided to jump on the Olympic Explorer,
which is driving through the whole park and explaining nearly everything. Afterwards we
rushed into the
Stadium Australia to do a behind the scenes tour, which was really interesting. We
got lots of facts to know. During the games for example it had a capacity of 110 000 seats.
At the moment they do a reconfiguration which leads to a new capacity of "just" 80 000 people.
For a not small amount you can become Platinum Member, then you get 2 Tickets for every
event for the next 28 years, an own parking spot and access to a special lounge within the
stadium and special seats in front of this one. The
pictures are seperately again, as they are again a little
more of them.
