out into the sea

Today we did our first skills in the sea. After the usual preparation (checking the equipment, setting it up, buddy check - "Bruce(bcd&tank) Willis (weightbelt) Ruins(releases) All(air) Films(final check)") we went into the sea. First we did all the skills we already trained in the pool yesterday (e.g. maskflooding and -cleaning, regulator recovery, alternative airsource breathing, ...) and then we did a little pleasure dive around Alma Bay. Unfortunately we did not see so many interesting things, just a few little fish. Reason for this was the bad visibility due to the rising tide. The second dive was in the rocky part of Alma Bay. There we could see quite a few interesting things: a little box-jellyfish, stingrays and lots of small and colourful other fish - it is the first time that I am using a fish chart, so I hope this is an excuse - but it was really nice.
In the afternoon we went to the "cinema" again for a few movies. Then we trained the newly learned skills in the pool. The time is passing by on these so quick that you think you have not done anything (but you have!;-) and it is already half five when you finish the diving course. Originally we wanted to do a bbq tonight, but when we went to do some shopping, we realised that it is Sunday today and that the shopping would not really work out.
You can stay at Arkies for quite good money, but as the so called kitchen just contains of two microwaves, a cattle and an electric frying pan you are kind of forced to get your meals from the quite expensive bistro. Apart from all that we of course had more time to study for tomorrows PADI Open Water Exam as there was no bbq.
Later Katie and me had a nice evening at the really sandy beach...
