relaxing on the beach
Originally we wanted to rent one of these little mini mokes for our last day on Magi-Island today and cruise
around the island for the whole day. As we are five persons and these mokes are just suitable for four we finally
decided to leave it, save some money and relax on a beach somewhere.
So we first went to Horseshoebay. There you have a stinger-net and can feel reasonably save. Unfortunately the
water is pretty dirty and you cannot really enjoy it. After a little snack for lunch we decided to go to Alma
Bay and jump into the cleaner water there. After a little cool down we had to hurry up though, as Katies
and Amys ferry was supposed to leave at 13:45. So we quickly went to Picnic Bay but could not see a ferry at all.
Then we realised that they must have checked the car ferry timetable. Now we had a little bit more time left, before
Amy went Townsville to go to a dentist and Katie went to catch the bus to Cairns. The farewell then after all was not easy...
In the evening there was the crazy cane toad race at Arkies. You really could bet on these distgusting creatures. This
crazy guy fist started to introduce his eight toads to everybody. Then, if you were interested, you could start to bid
on your toad. If you bid high enough you finally could consider the toad to be yours for the race. Finally there were
three races. Finally when the auction for the second race started, we decided to get the two best toads of
the previous race. As we bid as a group it was not so expensive for every single one of us. We thought the odds were
for us as well and one of our toads even finished second - but there is no prize for the second. So finally we
spent 54 bucks for two disgusting little cane toads - unbelievable. After the race the guy at least explained a little
bit more about these toads. Originally there were imported to control some bucks who damaged sugar cane. Unfortunately
nobody checked out how this will work out before - as with many other things as well. The beetle is able to fly, the
cane toad not. So finally an animal which was imported to solve a problem is a problem itself now. Due to their poison
they are not easy to control - or better to say - not to control at all.
