Down in Down Under - Diary - 16/12/02

whitsundays in a day
As we did not see so much of the Whitsundays with the diving trip, we decided to go on a daytrip through
the whitsundays today. In the morning we started for our three island exploring tour. The first island was
Hook Island where I just relaxed on the beach and did not use the possibility to snorkel - three days
diving are enough for the moment. After one hour we went to the stunning underwater observatory on the island.
It is already a few years old and not as interesting as recommended. If you have already seen the underwaterworld
doing diving, what should you have expected.
Then we went on to Whitsunday Island and Whitehaven Beach as rain was coming up. At Whitehaven Beach the boat
docked directly at the beach and we could disembark right onto the beach via a stair at the front.
Incredible! A white beach and clear water - indescribable.
It does not look so good on the pictures - as many things here, you just cannot get everything into the camera.
We went up and down the beach and met some people we had already met on Magnetic Island. They were on one of these
sailingtrips and had just a few hours on the beach every day before going back to their accomodation on one of the
other islands. They did not sail at all as there is not much wind in between the islands - all together one big joke.
At this point we were quite lucky about our trip. After Whitsunday Island we went to South Molle Island, a typical
resort island.
In the evening we went to Reef Discovery. We received free admission to this from Pro Dive and decided to take
this offer. We expected it to be kind of multimedia-show. Finally it was "just" a slideshow, but really interesting.
I wish we could have done this before going on the diving trip. I am sure the diving would have been even more
interesting with all the knowledge we got through this lecture. We were just six people there and the guy from O.U.C.H.
volunteers, an organisation that fights for the preservation of the Reef, included us in his talk.
Back at the cabin I really discovered a phone connection and could even dial. Unfortunately my PrePaid-Internet is
expired and I could not use this deluxe possibility to update my webpage.
