exploring other parts of melbourne

As we decided to stay one more day in Melbourne yesterday, I of course wanted to use this possibility to see more of Melbourne. So, early in the morning, I jumped into one of the tramways and went to Toorak - one of the upper class districts. There you can see the corresponding villas. Then I went on my way to Brighton, to enjoy the view onto the city from Brighton Beach. Of course you have to do a walk across Brighton to get to the Beach from the terminal stop of the tram. Without a map this is quite tricky. I asked several people and typically the answer usually was: "Somewhere there, but I don't know exactly, how far, I never walked there!" After a certain time, honestly, I was already a little bit frustrated, I met a mailman, who had a map and could show me where I have to go and how far it will be. Eventually he even gave me a map and so I had full orientation again. Arriving at the beach, the view is quite good, although the skyline of the city was not visible in such a good way due to the usual pall of smoke on top of the city.
By train and another tram I went up the coast a little bit into the direction of the city centre to St. Kilda. First thing there is a closed Luna Park, as in Sydney as well. Then there is this typical esplanade along the wateredge, which now that it is getting colder and colder, of course looks a little bit deserted. After I enjoyed a view from the pier I walked up Fitzroy Street along the many coffee bars to the edge of Albert Park. Just a few weeks ago the Australian Formula One Grand Prix had taken place here. However you cannot see anything anymore and I cannot really imagine how this racing track should look like. So I took the tramway again to go back to the city.
In the evening I took the opportunity to watch "Bowling for Columbine", which luckily is still shown here in Melbourne. An awesome movie, which affects that you think about the us-american culture another time.
