great ocean road
After we had found the way out of town eventually, we went into the direction of Geelong - the gate to
the Great Ocean Road. There we got extensive information and material about the Great Ocean Road
at the information centre. After another twenty minute drive, we arrived in Torquay and a little bit later
at Bells Beach, which is supposed to be a popular beach for surfers. Afterwards we went through the
historic gate and officially were on the Road. From there we drove directly along the coast. Arriving
in Lorne, we went inland a little bit to Erskine Falls. These are situated approximately 10km off the
coast in the mountains. Quite nice, but of course in my point of view meanwhile just another waterfall.
Afterwards we went to Teddys Lookout, arguably the most beautiful along Great Ocean Road, and actually
the outlook is excellent. From there on we went on along the coast to Apollo Bay, where the road
leaves the coast for a certain time. Actually we wanted to visit the lighthouse at Cape Ottway and decided
that it is worth the 12km detour. However, arriving there, we had to realise that the whole area is
fenced off and you won't get to see anything unless paying expensive admittance - everything for nothing.
Then we went on to Port Campell, where we started to look for accomodation, as the sights, e.g.
Twelve Apostels and London Bridge, are just around the corner, and of course we did not want to miss them.
As it was already getting dark, we decided to leave all this for tomorrow.
