Down in Down Under - Diary - 05/04/03

on the way to nullabor
After doing some shopping for the next few days in the morning, we started for our way to the final
frontier of Australia. Passing several salt lakes and the southern Flinders Ranges we went to Port Augusta -
the intersection of highways into nowhere. From there you can take the Eyre Highway to Perth, the Stuart
Highway via Alice Springs to Darwin and the extended version of the Barrier Highway to Broken Hill.
After a last stop for cheap petrol - we filled up the tank for just seventeen bucks - we went on the way
into the nothingness. You leave Port Augusta and instantly are in the middle of nowhere and this was
supposed to hold on for the next 2000 or more kilometers. We set up our bivouac one and a half hours later
within Lake Gilles Conservation Park - right next to a salt lake in the more than one million star hotel
amongst this so beautiful nature.
