dales gorge

After an extensive breakfast - pancakes and rice pudding - our first aim along Dales gorge was Fortesque Falls. Of course we did not want to miss out a nice bath in the freezing water in the pool underneath the falls - according to some other people this is supposed to be the warmer pool in the gorge. Afterwards we went to Fern pool, which is situated a little bit further up - another pittoresque lookout. Then we climbed down into the gorge. Of course a sign was missing and so we could just guess where to go for the moment. Down in the gorge we went on pretty easily. As the gorge is a lot wider, of course a comparison with Hancock or Weano gorge is not possible. Arriving at Circular pools we naturally had to notice that they are even colder. Well, it doesn't matter, once you are in the water everything looks and feels different. You can climb out of the water on the other side then and enjoy the warm natural showers. For the way back we climbed up the gorge later on and walked back to the car park near Fortesque falls at the upper edge of the gorge. Well, this was the end of Karijini - not to bad, and I really can understand people who travel the west coast and cannot be thrilled at the east coast.
So we went on to our way to Port Hedland - back to the coast. However, finally we did not go to Port Hedland but just did a quick shopping stop in South Hedland, where most of the shops are closing at half five already. In the bottle shop we realised that there are no four litre casks available here - possibly due to the bigger aboriginal population up here. Is this the right way to solve the drinking problem?
It was already dark and we went on for the last 100km to the rest area. Actually there should be some roos on the road at this time of the day, but there were none. This wonderful part of the highway seems to be roo-free. Arriving at DeGrey river and looking for a nice place to set up our camp, we were welcome by a two-metre-snake - that's Australia.
